What is a good training regime for a non-runner who wants to run a 10k in a month?

I am not a runner at all, in fact I haven’t been very active in a while. There is a 10K coming up on Oct 25th that I would like to run. My goal is to run the whole distance without stopping I don’t really care what my time is. What is the best way to get in shape for a run like this? I don’t want to over-exert myself too quickly or not do enough soon enough.

What are some good ways to become a better runner?

Recently I have started running. As of now I am walking five minutes and running two for at least thirty minutes a day, but I would like to be able to run a whole 5K by December and run a whole marathon by November of 2011. I need to lose some weight (I am 5’9 and 206 pounds) and motivated to do so. Basically I just need advice on how I can accomplish these things and become a better and more fit runner!

Does being a long distance runner help with being a good sprinter?

On the cross country team, I see all the guys as skinny twigs but on the track team, all the guys have muscle. I’m a long distance runner and I’m planning do to track next semester and that requires a lot of sprinting. So does my experience of being a long distance runner help me be fast as a sprinter? Thank you.

What’s the best route to become a good runner without hating it?

We’re not all born great runners. What’s a way I can be a runner without absolutely hating it? I’m really more of a swimmer, but I would like to be able to run a good run without hating it as much as I do. Thanks!

What kind of lifting exercises are good for an 800m runner?

I know that sprinters should do stuff like squats and big weight exercises like that, and that long distance runners should do exercises like hills to build muscle but I was wondering what kind of weightliftibng exercises would be good for a mid-distance (800m) runner? I’ve been doing lunges, step-ups, leg press, leg extension, leg curls and calf raises. Are any of these a bad exercise to use, and what would be a few good exercises to do? Thanks a lot.

What are good speed work excersises a middle/long distance runner can do?

i want to focus on speed work drills and stuff to get faster. Im a middle to long distance track runner, so Im not as in shape as sprinters are (speedwise). So nothing too intense! thanks!

How good of a runner should she be for middle school cross country/track?

My niece wants to try out for her cross country and/or track team this coming school year. I know it varies but for say seventh and eighth graders, how good of a runner should she be? How can she approach getting better?
And which do you prefer- cross country or track? Why? Thank you so much to anyone who can answer. :)

For women who have gone through basic training: do the military bras give good support for running/jogging?

I am female, 28 years old. So my skin isn’t as forgiving as it used to be. Wondering if I can count on getting a decent sport bra when I get there. I’m not spoiled, I just don’t want to stretch out my girl gear.

What is the ideal length of a good workout jog?

I want to get myself back into shape and shed about 40 pounds of weight in the process (my total weight now is 220 pounds, I look OK with it, because I’m tall, but the flab’s gotta go). I normally jog 30 minutes a day, that takes me about 2 to 3 miles along a quiet waterfront. I read once that the best training effect is reached between 30 and 40 minutes, and that it’s pointless to over-exert yourself by going so hard you lose your breath, so I don’t.
But things are somehow not coming together. I’ve been doing this for weeks now, and my diet is chosen carefully, too (no processed foods, high protein, low carb, lots of raw veg, brown everything), but I still weigh the same, and I still have the same pants’ size.
Are my assumptions wrong?

If a pretty girl or a good looking guy walk beside you in a jogging track would you dare to speak with them?

him or her. How would you approach them what would you talk to him or her
